North East's couple's romance

A romance driven by a shared love of the classics - cars that is - culminated in a American-look wedding.

Alex Hall, 26, and his 23-year-old fiancee Kimberly Close tied the knot at St Helen’s Church in Low Fell on Saturday where passers-by were treated to a display of Cadillac cars.

But none will have been hired - Alex’s in-laws collect the eye-catching vehicles and own about 30 among them.

And around five of the US favourites ferried family members to the wedding, while the happy couple themselves drove off in Alex’s own 1965 Cadillac which they used during their courting days.

Car-lover Alex, who works as a spray-painter, had sold on the car in the intervening years but he managed to track it down, buy it back and do it up in time for the big day.

“We wanted something a bit different,” he said of their wedding plans.

“We met through cars and I’ve always been into American cars - the 1930s and 1950s ones; I liked the gangster look - ever since I was a young lad.”

About five years Alex bought his Cadillac with the help of Kimberly’s brother, who works with his dad on their shared passion for the cars.

And that’s how Alex, from Gateshead , met Kimberly, from Washington, who works as a purchasing manager for her dad’s offshore manufacturing company.

“I was doing a bit of work for her brother; we were working on the American cars together and he introduced me to his sister, now my fiancee,” said Alex.

When they made their wedding plans he had the idea of buying back the car he’d sold so they could use it on the day - but when he contacted the buyer he found it had been sold on.

“I wanted it back,” he said. “Some of our first dates were in that car.”

Finally, he managed to track down the new owner.

“I persuaded him to sell if for sentimental reasons! I was willing to pay extra to get it back.”

It was not in good condition but with a bit of loving car Alex has it back in prime condition.

The newly-weds drove off in it after the wedding ceremony but it won’t be taking them on honeymoon.

The pair plan to head off to the home of the Cadillac: America. “We love it,” said Alex.

The Latest Wedding Gift for Brides?

Talia* wasn't sure what to get her friend Rachel for her bridal shower, until she remembered the gift the bride was already getting for herself: a new name. Rachel had decided to take her future husband's name when she got married. It gave Talia an idea.

She wrangled the other bridesmaids and got them in on her "gift": a Gmail account she made for Rachel with the bride's new full name. They printed the email address and password on a sheet of paper and put it inside a thin, flat box, which they in turn placed inside of another box, and another box, and another.

There was more: "We could all write congratulations emails to her," Talia suggested to the rest of the bridal party before the shower, "for when she finally logs in to her new email address for the first time."

Email addresses are an unusual present for a new bride. But it's also not totally original. According to Jo-Anne Stayner, a public relations consultant for the service I'm A Mrs., which helps newlyweds expedite the name-change process for a fee, gifting brides with new email addresses featuring their married names has become something of a "thing." She's seen it at least a dozen times, she told Mic.

The Latest Wedding Gift for Brides? A Brand-New Email Address

Photo: vintage wedding dresses australia

"I think it's going to be one of those little trendy cool new presents in this next bridal season, and then it'll probably fade out," Stayner said.

While it's tough to gauge just how common new email addresses as gifts actually are, it reflects the current trend of brides opting to take their husbands' names, despite a brief trend in women keeping their last names that peaked in the 1990s.

According to a poll by the New York Times earlier this year, an estimated 70% of women decide to take their husbands' last names when they get married, while 20% keep their own and the other 10% hyphenate. (In contrast, the number of men who take their wives' last names is so negligible, "any survey would have trouble picking it up," Penn State University sociologist Laurie Scheuble told the Huffington Post.)

As the New York Times pointed out, despite the great advances feminism has made there's still a great deal of social pressure on women to take their husbands' names. But for many brides, the decision is not quite so political. "So many women are working and they have established careers for themselves, it almost seemed bigger to decide to take his name than to not take his name," Donna Suh, a bride who ended up keeping her name, told theTimes.

From passports to Facebook profiles: Whatever the intended message of changing surnames might be, when brides do take their husbands' names, they have to change more than just their legal documents; they have to change their Internet presences as well. In fact, the Daily Beast found that out of a pool of 14 million married female Facebook users in the United States, 65% of women in their 20s and 30s changed their usernames when they wed.

The poll excluded statistics for brides who change their names legally, but not on Facebook or the other way around. Either way, it reflects what we already know: "email addresses are important parts of who we are," including whether we're single or married, Stayner said.

"Some people rely so heavily on your email and your handle, and so you think about those things. 'Is it easy to say? Do I have to explain it? Do I have to spell it out?'" Stayner said. "You're probably telling five people a week what your email address is."

That's why Stayner says she encourages bridesmaids to opt for intentionally temporary email addresses — "like SoonToBeMrsRobertSmith@gmail.com" — if they're going to give brides new email accounts as gifts.

"People are really specific about what they want their email addresses to be," she said.

Our online identities are part of who we are IRL. For many newly married women who choose to change their names, moving over to a different email address is just one of a long list of things that need to happen in order to solidify a corresponding wifely identity. (It's not just passports and driver's licenses that need to be updated: According to Stayner, one of the biggest pains is changing your name on accounts for hotel and airline rewards, the sorts of programs where you've usually been accruing points for years.)

"I changed my name on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram almost immediately, because I guess I wanted to symbolically and publicly recognize such a big change in my life," 23-year-old Jenna Stewart, who got married in August, told Mic. "I find it really interesting how I immediately sought to change my name on social media sites compared to my lack of interest or urgency in getting it changed legally. Who I am on social media does contribute to my own sense of identity."

The politics of women changing their names aside, in our increasingly connected world, changing something that feels ubiquitous and unexpectedly personal, like an email address or a Twitter handle, is a powerful statement. That's why bridal parties are doing their part to help new brides speed along the process.

"Nowadays, sadly, it feels like you include your email address as part of your identity," Talia said of her decision to gift her friend a new email address, "so it only made sense that Rachel would make a new account to reflect her new name ... we did it for her, in a fun way."

Same-sex wedding expo

Kansas’ first wedding expo aimed at same-sex couples took place Sunday afternoon at the Maner Conference Center at the Kansas Expocentre.

The equality wedding expo included about 50 vendors providing a variety of services including photography, tuxedo rental, makeup artistry and catering.

The event was co-sponsored by Visit Topeka and Topeka Pride.

Ted English, public service specialist with Visit Topeka, said the event supports inclusiveness and people from all walks of life.

“I think it’s great,” he said.

The Kansas Equality Wedding Expo was held Sunday at the Manor Conference Center at the Capital Plaza Hotel. The Expo was sponsored by Visit Topeka, Inc. and Topeka Pride and is the first of its kind in Kansas. The event featured LGBTQ friendly wedding vendors and a fashion show. The expo included two fashion shows, one at noon and another at 3 p.m.

wedding dresses online australia and tuxedos were provided by Happily Ever After and Men’s Wearhouse.

Katrina Fraise-Fluellen, owner of Happily Ever After, said she wanted to be involved in the expo to show support to the LGBT community and to let people know there are vendors in Topeka who are happy to serve them.

“Everybody deserves a happily ever after,” she said.

Visit Topeka’s tourism development manager Rosa Cavazos said Visit Topeka was motivated to organize the first equality wedding expo in the state, especially since same-sex marriage became legal this year.

She also said there was a line of people to get in before the expo opened and that people came from across the state, including Wichita, Salina and Kansas City. Some of the out-of-town visitors told Cavazos they hoped their own cities would support a similar event.

Stewart Wallace, with Oklahomans for Equality, based in Tulsa, wanted to participate after finding out about the event. As a vendor, he was selling merchandise from the Pride Store Roadshow.

“I have never done an equality bridal show,” said vendor Carmen Hocking, from A Beautiful Wedding, a wedding planning company. “I just wanted to get my company out there. Everyone is entitled to love whoever they want to love, and I don’t judge.”

Businesses that didn’t participate as vendors but wanted to display their support for same-sex weddings could get a window cling to put in their storefronts.

5 Easy Fashion Trends Girls Need To Master This Fall

Ladies, fall is here and it’s the time of the year where we all kind of struggle to find the right trends. Fall in Montreal gets quite intense, but I’m here to save your fashion season this year with a few options and tips for you to apply.

Let me show you a few cheap ways to get real cozy & trendy this fall in Montreal:

Pictures: wedding dresses lace

Business Casual

Business casual is the best way to be trendy with a touch of professionalism this fall. It’s not complicated to put all together and it’s quite cheap if the pieces are found at the right spots. Hop in the subway and head downtown towards H&M, Simons or Zara for easy pick ups.

Cheap & prefered pieces – White long sleeve shirt, cardigan and black skinny trousers.

Tip – You can keep the cardigan open on top to show your shirt’s collar. It’s a nice little touch and adds professionalism. High boots are also a great add-on.

Winter-Street-Style-2015

Fashionista

We have tons of fashionistas in this city. For most of these young montrealers, it’s hard to keep up to date with how much fashion actually costs. The fashionista is most seen running the arts scene of his/her city and vintage wedding gowns between designer and common brands.

Cheap & prefered pieces – Long sleeved jersey at H&M, Zara black sweats or ripped H&M black jeans, black boots found anywhere in Montreal.

Tips – Distressed clothing is the best kind of clothing. Don’t be shy to wear oversized sweaters or shirts, if it mixes with your outfit properly, it’s probably nice.

Preppy

Preppy should feel very close to business casual. However, being a real preppy girl requires a nice touch of “school mixed with business“. The skirt is always a great option if you are trying to fully reach the preppy zone.

Cheap & prefered pieces – Skirt and cute little boots are a thumbs up. A nice mix of colors or all black is a great path to take as well.

Tips – Getting the right preppy look often comes down to being very structural in its clothing choice. Tight cuts, always. Give your outfit a clean structure.

Winter-2012-Street-Style

Street Style

My personal favorite. A mix of fashionistas, but with a street touch to it all. If you are an individual who travels through the city from meetings to meetings, projects to projects you’ll enjoy this trend.

Cheap & prefered pieces – Jeans jacket, black high top boots, black skinny jeans and insane sneakers.

Tips – Street style is all about mixing styles. Use your knowledge of preppy/business casual vibe and mix it with a bit of trashness to get the right street style look. Also, please make sure you have proper sneakers if you are about to run the streets !

Sporty

Sports wear is great when properly applied during fall season. It is one of the coolest and most comfortable style you can have in your wardrobe.

Cheap & prefered pieces – Well cut black hoodie, long coat (H&M, Zara & Simons for cheap), warm black leggings, beige boots (yes, like the ones Drake is wearing in Hot Line Bling).

Tips – My suggestion to you is to keep it all under one color. If you go for a black hoodie, go for black sneakers and black leggings. It’ll look pretty darn good !

Kaitlyn Bristowe Wedding With Fiance Shawn

Could it be true that a wedding between 2015 "Bachelorette" Kaitlyn Bristowe and fiancé Shawn Booth is no longer happening?

According to a report by "In Touch" magazine (via Celeb Dirty Laundry), the reality stars are just keeping it under wraps and they are even "are planning on faking their engagement for as long as they can - and they have been hounding ABC producers to give them their own reality TV show."

Sources of the magazine reportedly claimed that 2015 "Bachelorette" Kaitlyn Bristowe and fiancé Shawn Booth "are sticking it out - and determined to keep the fake romance going because it is lining their pockets," which was presumed to include their anticipated wedding.

"They were so lovey-dovey. But, when the cameras turned off, they immediately stopped holding hands," an insider at Fashion Week in New York City allegedly dished. "Kaitlyn jumped on her phone while Shawn sat there checking out the beautiful models."

The said source reportedly narrated as well that "They acted like total strangers."

Another unnamed informant revealed that 2015 "Bachelorette" Kaitlyn Bristowe and fiancé Shawn Booth "really did love each other at first" which could have influenced the wedding stories that came out.

"But, he was constantly on her about who she was texting and talking to," the insider added. "Shawn never showed this side of himself during the show."

With that, "Kaitlyn eventually realized that she didn't want to be with someone like that."

Meanwhile, E! News previously reported that the leading lady of the ABC dating reality show's 19th season and the look-a-like of Ryan Gosling already had wedding talks.

In an interview, Shawn Booth shared that they are "going to set a date after the New Year."

When it comes to their relationship, he even exclaimed that "It's real, it's genuine, and every day we learn more about each other. She's an amazing person and she's 100% wife material."

Do you think 2015 "Bachelorette" Kaitlyn Bristowe's wedding to fiancé Shawn Booth will still push through?

Jenni ‘Jwoww’ Farley Acting Full Time After Wedding?

Jenni “Jwoww” Farley had a very exciting and eventful weekend with her husband Roger Mathews earlier in October. Not only did the couple get married, but they also announced that they are expecting their second child, which is a baby boy.

Despite Jwoww's busy schedule, Fashion & Style got the chance to talk with the former “Jersey Shore” star about her new role in the upcoming film “The Mint."

Also, the newly married reality TV star dished on her new series about moms with best friend Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi.

1. What is your role in “The Mint” movie? Can you relate to your character in real life?

"My character is very close to my personality. I would say she's a little nicer haha."

2. What was your favorite scene to shoot? Least favorite?

"[I] didn't have a least favorite, [but the] most awkward [part] is I just met 'J' [main character played by Chris Cardillo] the day I had to slap him haha. It's like, 'Hi nice to meet you... Now I'm going to smack you about 20 times!'"

3. What is it like to transition from reality TV to a comedy drama film?

"Completely day and night. [With] reality [television,] you don't have good lighting and you avoid the camera haha. [You] can't look into a camera or talk to the cameraman. [With] movies, it's all about specific camera angles and good lighting! The cameraman becomes your best friend!"

4. Would you consider pursuing acting as a full-time gig?

"No way. [The] only full time gig I'm doing is being a mom! I'm obsessed [with] staying home with her (Meilani)."

5. Will there be a new season of “Snooki & Jwoww” coming up that shows your big wedding day?

"[I] teamed up with Snooki for 'Awestruck' to host a mom channel which is amazing because it's what I want in my life. Simple reality. Helping other moms and no drama. I will possibly air my trailer from the videographer on my 'Awestruck' channel!!!"

Stay tuned for another exclusive with Jwoww on Fashion & Style!

Same-sex couple turned away from Heritage Ranch

A Raymore same-sex couple will not be able to host their wedding next year at the Heritage Ranch, a Sedalia event venue, as they had hoped, as the owners do not support same-sex marriage.

Rachel Cathey had been emailing Heritage Ranch owner Sara Howell for a few weeks before taking a visit to the venue Sunday with her mom and her fiance, Beverly Vaughn.

“When we got down there we got out of the car, my mom was there, and Beverly and I were holding hands like normal couples do walking around the ranch,” Cathey said. “Sara pulls up after we do, as we look at each other holding hands, talking about it.

Images: plus size wedding dress

“(The barn) is stunning, it’s so pretty — (Vaughn and I) looked at each other and said ‘this is it, this is where we’re going to get married.’ We started talking about a place for the bride to get ready. Sara said ‘we have a bridal suite.’ I said we have two brides.”

Howell then told the two brides-to-be the Heritage Ranch does not permit same-sex weddings at the venue.

“Before she could even finish I asked why and she said ‘because we’re Christian and we don’t,’” Cathey said. “I didn’t let her finish, told her she had answered all our questions and turned around and walked out.”

Howell owns the business with her husband, Josh. He explained to the Democrat why same-sex marriages don’t take place at Heritage Ranch.

“It is a violation of our religious beliefs. We would have to violate our conscious to allow that to occur here,” Josh Howell said. “We feel we would be dishonoring God, who we serve and He was the one who gave us this business and it is only right we serve him and honor him with it. It would be a sin for us to allow that, so we could not in good conscious do that.”

Josh Howell said the couple has turned away one other couple due to their Christian beliefs. That same-sex couple had read the Heritage Ranch website, which makes references to God and the Christian faith, and realized they may not be able to host a wedding there. Josh said that particular couple approached him and his wife with that in mind, and once the Howells said they could not host the wedding, he said the couple understood.

The situation was posted Monday in a post on PROMOonline.org. Josh and Sara have read the post, and he wanted to point out something Cathey wrote.

“It’s important to note, one of them said they stopped listening once my wife said she was Christian,” he said. “If they had listened, they’d see it’s not a personal matter, it’s a matter of religious conviction and personal belief.”

According to the website, “PROMO is Missouri’s statewide organization advocating for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender equality through legislative action, electoral politics, grassroots organizing, and community education.”

The Howells have since received countless hate messages via phone and social media regarding their beliefs and Sunday’s situation.

“We’ve had several hateful messages over the phone and social media since the article was published and we found it very hypocritical they criticized us for being hateful and then follow that up with hateful comments toward us,” Josh Howell said.

While Cathey and Vaughn aren’t happy about the Howells’ decision to not host their wedding, Cathey said she isn’t upset simply because the couple is Christian.

“It’s not that I am upset at (Sara’s) views. She has the right to her own opinion, that’s fine, but she doesn’t need to let it rain on someone else’s opinion because she doesn’t like it,” Cathey said. “How would us getting married there — or any other same-sex couple or any couple other than what’s she used to — how would it matter to her and change her life and affect her if we got married at the venue?”

Cathey said she and Vaughn haven’t encountered any similar situations while planning their wedding. PROMO is lobbying to make sure that continues.

“We are working to pass the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act, known as MONA,” said PROMO Interim Director Steph Perkins. “It would add sexual orientation and gender identity as protected categories to the Human Rights Statute that protects against discrimination in employment, housing, access to public services. Businesses that are open to the public — provide public accommodation — currently cannot deny service based on race, religion (and national origin, ancestry, gender or age). With MONA that would include sexual orientation and gender identity.”

Twenty-eight states have nondiscrimination laws that protect LGBT citizens, and Cathey said she agrees Missouri should be added to the list. Perkins noted the Howells cited religious reasons, but that business owners currently cannot claim religious exemption to refuse service to someone of another race or gender.

“MONA already has religious exemption for religious institutions; adding sexual orientation would not change that,” Perkins said. “However, private businesses do have to serve the public in general and so religious exemptions don’t protect private businesses. Even though religion is incredibly important and a core value for many, and many LGBT people, it cannot be used for a reason to discriminate or deny someone a public service.”

However, Josh Howell said their event venue is private property.

“Another thing the article incorrectly noted is that this is a public access venue. It’s on private property, it’s privately run and privately owned,” he said.

Cathey said she hadn’t been lobbying for MONA before, but now she wants to help the cause.

“I absolutely (think it should be passed) because if nobody stands up for it, who knows who’s going to get fired because of a same-sex relationship. I didn’t know in the State of Missouri you can get fired for that, lose your house for that just based on gender identity and sexual orientation,” she said. “That is where the story is becoming more and more heartfelt to me.

“At first I just wanted to let people in the LGBT community know, don’t go here if you’re trying to get married. Now I need to stand up for us because somebody has to. Since I’ve already said something I might as well stand up for it.”
